The Interview…

On October 22, 2020, Jo interviewed Paul on her show after hearing his story at another event. Paul discusses with Jo the story of how he decided to swim The English Channel the first time, about the importance of setting long term and short term goals, and the secret given to him by the Queen of The English Channel which he uses in all areas of his life to achieve his goals. Paul explains how anybody can use this philosophy to achieve their goals, and how it is especially important to do so during this mentally challenging global pandemic.

“Never negotiate with your dream! It was 27 years from when I set myself the goal of swimming The English Channel until I did it for the first time. It’s important to have both long term and short term goals and tick them off as you achieve them. The only reason I swum the channel the second time, was that having achieved a long term goal, I got really depressed. So it’s important that when you achieve a goal, that you have another one already planned and ready to go!”

Go For It! - Episode Description…

“This week I interview the extraordinary Paul Hopfensperger! He achieved his lifelong goals of becoming the 873rd person in history to swim the English Channel! And in 2008 he did it again to become only the 84th person in history to do it twice! That takes guts and perseverance! Then In the same year, he became the oldest known person to represent Great Britain at swimming when he competed in two FINA World Cup Open Water Grand Prix swims in Serbia and Mexico respectively. Then in 2010, he completed his third crossing of the English Channel as part of a six person relay team. Paul will talk to us about how he did these magnificent feats and what kept him going through the training and the actual events. So many quit and the few are the exceptions to keep going and make it happen! Paul is one of the few. Paul has a upbeat personality and his story is so compelling! You won’t want to miss this!”
